South Africa’s car sales figures for November 2024 show continued growth, with Toyota, VW, and Suzuki leading the pack.

Best Selling Car South Africa: November 2024 Results

The South African automotive industry continued its positive trend in November 2024, with total sales reaching 48,585 units – an 8.1% increase year-on-year and 643 units more than October’s strong performance. This article examines the best-selling car in South Africa for that month.

Toyota’s Continued Dominance

Toyota maintained its leadership position, with 12,108 units sold, a further increase of 217 units compared to the previous month. Toyota’s long-standing popularity in South Africa remains firmly intact.

VW and Suzuki: A Close Battle for Second

Volkswagen (VW) secured the second spot with a healthy 6,321 units sold, although this represented a slight decrease from October. Suzuki continued its impressive run, matching its previous record with 6,004 units sold, solidifying its position as the third most popular brand in the country.

Top 10: Best Selling Car South Africa

Here’s a breakdown of the top 10 best-selling car brands in South Africa for November 2024:

⦁ Toyota: 12,108 units

⦁ VW: 6,321 units

⦁ Suzuki: 6,004 units

⦁ Ford: 3,071 units

⦁ Hyundai: 2,940 units

⦁ Isuzu: 2,081 units

⦁ Chery: 2,006 units

⦁ GWM: 1,847 units

⦁ Kia: 1,662 units

⦁ Renault: 1,505 units

The rankings saw a minor change, with Kia and Renault swapping positions. Chinese brands Chery and GWM continued to demonstrate strong performance, maintaining relatively close sales figures.

Sales Channels: Dealerships Lead

Dealerships remained the primary sales channel, accounting for 81.2% of all cars sold in November. The rental car industry contributed 14.6%, government purchases 2.4%, and corporate fleets the remaining 1.8%.

Passenger Cars Outperform Commercial Vehicles

Passenger car sales saw a substantial year-on-year increase of 20%, totaling 25,101 units. In contrast, light commercial vehicle sales experienced a 16.3% decline, reaching 10,287 units.

Export Market Challenges

A concerning development is the significant drop in vehicle exports. November 2024 saw a 28.6% year-on-year decrease, with only 30,431 units exported. The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa) reported an average export decline of 23.9% for the first 11 months of 2024 compared to 2023. This downturn is attributed to restrictive monetary policies and weakened economic conditions in several key export markets. The DTIC will review the figures. Staying informed about market trends by reading general motoring news is recommended.

While the domestic market exhibits resilience, the decline in exports poses a significant challenge to South African vehicle manufacturers. The search for Best Selling Car South Africa continues.
