Peugeot Doubles Down on South Africa

Peugeot is stepping up its game in South Africa’s bakkie market with an aggressive expansion of the Landtrek lineup. With three new variants, including a highly competitive single cab and a 4×4 option, the brand is clearly aiming for broader appeal—especially as local production looms.

1. New Variants for New Buyers

Peugeot’s updated Landtrek range includes:

  • Single Cab Professional (2WD) – R388,900
  • Double Cab Professional (2WD) – R454,900
  • Double Cab Active (4×4) – R545,900

These new models create a lower entry point—nearly R250,000 cheaper than the previous base trim. This move signals Peugeot’s intent to compete with more established workhorse brands in South Africa.

2. Same Engine, More Choices

All Landtreks, including the newcomers, pack a 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine delivering:

  • 110kW of power
  • 350Nm of torque

Transmission options differ by trim:

  • Manual gearbox for the Professional and Active models
  • Automatic gearbox reserved for Allure and 4Action variants

3. Fuel Economy and Utility

  • 2WD fuel consumption: 8.9L/100km
  • 4×4 Active fuel consumption: 9.1L/100km
  • Towing capacity: 3,000kg across the range
  • Payload:
    • Single Cab: 1,210kg
    • Double Cab: 1,020kg

These numbers position the Landtrek as both practical and capable—especially for business owners.

4. What’s Included: Trim Comparisons

Professional (entry-level focus):

  • 16-inch steel wheels
  • Electric windows, cloth seats, central locking
  • Manual air conditioning
  • Bluetooth audio with 2 speakers
  • ABS, dual airbags

Active (value-driven 4×4):

  • 17-inch alloys
  • Fog lamps, side airbags, rear parking sensors
  • Electrically adjustable mirrors
  • Upgraded 4-speaker system

5. Warranty and Service Plan

  • 5-year/100,000km warranty across all variants
  • Service plan:
    • Standard on Allure and 4Action
    • Optional on Professional and Active

Conclusion: Affordable and Ambitious

With new, lower-priced Landtrek options, Peugeot is proving that it’s not just here to compete—it’s here to disrupt. These bakkies strike a balance between utility and affordability, expanding access for tradesmen, fleet owners, and adventurous families alike.

As local production gears up in the Eastern Cape, even more competitive pricing could be around the corner.
